Born in Essex to a Trinidadian family; music is something that has been around Chrissi all her life. Her musical influences whizz across multiple genres, taking a circuitous route to the current day. From her carnival-obsessed parents who played nothing but soca, to teen years immersed in house and UK garage, to the later discoveries of neo-soul and R&B greats like Jill Scott and Erykah Badhu; Chrissi’s music takes inspiration from a litany of stylistic sources. Back In The Day has a certain informality. Drawing variouslyfrom R&B, soul and pop, Chrissi’s voice, smokey and soulful drapes across the tracks suave laid-back beat as hi-hats susserate over lilting melodies. It’s a voice designed to reveal meaningful tales. Born from casual writings and recorded with Mercury Award nominee and producer BERWYN, Back In The Day captures the beautiful mess of young love and past experiences of changing herself to fit a loved one.
